Dit romantisch familiedrama uit 2001 van de Indiase regisseuse Mira Nair (Salaam Bombay!, Mississippi Masala) speelt zich af in de Indiase stad New Delhi, waar de dochter van een rijke Punjabi wordt uitgehuwelijkt aan een naar Texas geëmigreerde ingenieur. Als de chaotische voorbereidingen van het traditioneel te voltrekken huwelijk in volle gang zijn en de gasten zich uit alle windstreken aandienen ontrafelen zich langzaam allerlei familie-intriges.
